What other services, besides custom carpentry, does your company provide?

Michelle Thomas Design is a turnkey firm offering services for projects of all sizes. Services include but are not limited to project management, working drawings in Autocad, designing architectural details, space planning, material selections for custom cabinetry, plumbing, lighting, flooring, paint, furniture selections, window treatments, art, accessories, and installation oversight.

Please elaborate on custom carpentry as a service and what it pertains.

Custom carpentry pertains to all aspects involving wood working and custom finish out. It ranges from cabinets, doors, trim work, built in banquette, tongue and groove ceilings, stairway banister, and custom built closets ? ladies, think of all the shoes you can store! If you can dream it we can design it & build it.

When might you suggest someone should look into custom carpentry to complete their job?

I would use custom carpentry in an otherwise overlooked space such as a closet. By incorporating custom carpentry you can transform an underutilized space into a fully functioning organized area. I recently worked with a client to finish out their walk in closet. We detailed every inch to accommodate large storage, cubbies for hats, long hanging dresses, shoe rack for 80 pairs of shoes, chest of drawers with soft close drawers, and a jewelry drawer.

What are some benefits of custom carpentry?

You get a tailored solution to your project!

Is custom carpentry more expensive than if someone were to just install a pre-designed building supply?

Yes and No- several things can affect the overall cost. How elaborate are the designs, what type of wood are you using, and do you want it painted or stained. A great way to save on a custom carpentry project is to select an affordable wood species or choose paint grade for even bigger savings.

Is the process longer to custom build pieces than it would be otherwise, and if so is it so much longer that you feel it would really be an issue?

No, anytime you are placing an order you chance items being on back order or even discontinued. If you run into this situation it can take weeks to reselect the product as well as place the order and wait for it to be shipped.

Are there any downfalls of custom carpentry?

You always want to be sure you have a skilled profession. Do your homework and get recommendations. There is nothing worse than choosing the wrong man for the job and then having to hire a professional to fix their mistakes.
