Solving San Antonio's Pest Problem Since 1957: An Interview with Hill Country Pest Control

By Kristen Bosse

Please describe a little bit about your company and the services you offer:

Hill Country Pest Control is celebrating our 40th year in business. We offer a wide range of services.....general pest control, termite, trees, TAP insulation , and heat remediation for bed bugs.

What is your position at HCPC?

I am the Director of Operations.

What are some precautions to take to avoid the risk of bed bugs in your home?

Being careful about buying second hand furniture and inspect mattresses in hotel rooms when you travel.

What is TAP Insulation? Why would you recommend using this over other types of insulation?

TAP Insulation is completely organic and made from recycled newspaper. The insulation is laced with 17% Boric Acid, which deters insects, as well as makes it 100% fire retardant.

Are all of your technicians licensed?

Yes. All of our technicians go through a rigorous training program and are all licensed by the Texas Dept. of Agriculture.

What has so many years in business taught you about the industry?

That the key to success is to provide the highest level of customer service. Customers are the key to successful growth. It is important that your technicians are educated in the field in which they are licensed to promote the highest level of customer satisfaction.

What are some easy ways to avoid the presence of pests in your home?

Keeping grass and weeds controlled around your structure can alleviate a lot of pest issues, as well as making sure your doors and windows are properly sealed.

Is there anything your business does differently than most pest control companies?

Instead of using chemical, we are the largest provider of thermal heat for bed bug control. Bed bugs cannot tolerate heat levels above 115 degrees F, and we use heating equipment to heat the structure above 130 degrees F to eliminate bed bugs, without the use of chemicals. We also utilize canines for scent detection of bed bugs.

What is the best way for people to get in contact with you?
