Five Must See Landmarks in Austin

By Tiffany Raiford

In past years, Austin has consistently been one of Texas' hidden gems. However, more and more people are learning that this is the hot spot in Central Texas, making it more popular than ever. Whether you have a trip planned to this fabulous city in the near future, or you're planning on buying or renting here, you might wonder where you should go and what you should do while you're in town. Which landmarks are the ones you absolutely should not miss? Well, here's your answer; and some of the five best landmarks might actually surprise you.

Austin Steam Train

If it moves, is it really considered a landmark? Not to get all technical on you, but this moving landmark is one you can't miss when you're in Austin. With the ability to run each weekend of the year, you'll love the fact that you get to take a steam engine ride through this gorgeous city with its lovely views and memorable tour. It's a recommendation you simply cannot miss.

The Alamo Drafthouse

You can't go to Texas without visiting the Alamo Drafthouse. This famous movie theater is home to not only a few great new releases but a ton of great old classics that everyone loves. You can also grab a beer while you watch your movie, which I think we can all agree makes any movie better. With an extensive and diverse food and beverage menu, you have plenty to choose from so that you can combine dinner and a movie anytime you want.

Mount Bonnell

It's the highest point in Austin, located approximately 775 feet above sea level. It's also the place to find the best views of the entire city you can imagine. You can head up to this gorgeous landmark with a picnic basket, a bottle of wine and a couple of glasses and enjoy what can only be considered a highly romantic date overlooking the skyline of this lovely Texas city.

6th Street

It's the most famous street in the city, formerly known as Pecan Street. It's the kind of place you go to be entertained at night. It's the center of all the fun happenings in Austin. From live bands to art galleries and cafes, it's the highlight of any trip to Austin. Be prepared to see things you've never seen before, to stay up late, and to try something new.

Hamilton Pool

If you're visiting in the heat of summer, this is the place to go. A gorgeous natural water setting with a 30 foot waterfall, you'll find that it's the perfect place to go and cool off with a quick swim, a waterside picnic lunch or a romantic stroll through the natural wilderness adjacent to Austin.

Visiting Austin is something you should try to do at least once in your lifetime. While there, be sure to add as many of these landmarks as possible to your to-do list. You won't regret the time and effort you spent getting from place to place. It's entirely worth it.
