Choosing the Right Electrician: An Interview with William Duhon of Duhon Electric

By William Duhon

Tell us a little bit about your company and its foundation.

Duhon Electric was formed by Damien after he worked for several years in the field. After a couple of years on his own, it was determined that there was enough work for both him and his brother to be a part of the same company. Being sons of an electrician, it was only nature for the brothers to start this company. They have been in business for well over a decade and continue to strive to provide the most reliable service. Duhon Electric wants to continue to work as a customer focused family run business whose motto is making customers happy one at a time.

What are some of the services your company provides?

Duhon Electric provides all residential and commercial electrical services. This includes new construction, remodels, low voltage, and data. We love to get the big jobs, but welcome the small ones. We value all customers both large and small the same. Duhon Electric is happy to change out a light fixture for a ceiling fan as well as run new wiring for an entire home.

Please explain the three most important qualities an electrician must possess.

Probably the most important quality an electrician should possess is respect for the customer. Without customers there is no business so electrician and all trades people should be honest and respectful to their customers. The amount of experience an electrician has is also important. Finally, an electrician should be knowledgeable about what work needs to be done, what should be done, and what can be done.

Why is it important to pick an electrician that is licensed and insured?

It is important to have an electrician that is licensed and insured because it provides a safety net for the customer if mistakes are made. Licensing insures that the individuals are qualified to work in the field.

In your opinion, is it better to have an electrician who focuses on one aspect of the trade more, or who is more generalize?

I think an electrician who has more general experience is better. They will have seen different situations and will have had to find different solutions to various problems. Having more diverse experience allows for more knowledge and, thus, a better electrician.

What advice do you have for someone who found an electrician they can afford, however perhaps he/she doesn't have the experience they want?

An individual cannot base their decision solely on price. If they do not have a good feeling about the electrician, then, perhaps, they should continue their search. Bids from electricians should be free so looking for additional potential companies should be possible. However, if the electrician is affordable, licensed, and insured, but just without extensive experience, then it would likely be okay to hire them.

Any other tips on choosing the right electrician and/or why your services are desirable?

When choosing the right electrician, I would suggest interviewing several companies and getting a feeling on who will best address your needs. Ask friends about who they would recommend. Read reviews online and see what other people are saying about the companies you are looking at.

Duhon Electric is a highly rated, well respected company in Austin and the surrounding area. Our reputation and experience is what makes us desirable.
